Hammad said, "Then I met Abu Hazim and he related it to me, and I did not find anything in what he told me different from what I had heard."There was fighting between the tribe of Amr bin Awf, and news of it reached the Prophet ﷺ after the noon prayer. He went to them to make peace between them and told Bilal, "If the time for prayer comes and I have not returned, instruct Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer."When the time for prayer came, Bilal made the call to prayer and then the iqamah, and he instructed Abu Bakr, who stepped forward. After he had stepped forward, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived. When he arrived, the people clapped. Abu Bakr, whenever he entered into prayer, would not turn around. When he saw that they would not stop, he turned and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He gestured to him with his hand to continue.Abu Bakr stepped backward, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped forward. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he said, "Abu Bakr, what prevented you from continuing your prayer when I gestured to you?"Abu Bakr replied, "It is not for the son of Abu Quhafa to lead the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayer."Then he said, "If something happens to you during the prayer, let the men say 'subhan Allah,' and let the women clap."
حدثنا يونس بن محمد حدثنا حماد حدثني عبيد الله بن عمر عن أبي حازم
حماد ثم لقيت أبا حازم فحدثني به فلم أنكر مما حدثني شيئا قال كان قتال بين بني عمرو بن عوف فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ بعد الظهر فأتاهم ليصلح بينهم وقال لبلال إن حضرت الصلاة ولم آت فمر أبا بكر فليصل بالناس قال فلما حضرت الصلاة أذن ثم أقام فأمر أبا بكر فتقدم فلما تقدم جاء رسول الله ﷺ فلما جاء صفح الناس قال وكان أبو بكر إذا دخل في الصلاة لم يلتفت قال فلما رآهم لا يمسكون التفت فإذا رسول الله ﷺ قال فأومأ إليه بيده أن امضه قال فرجع أبو بكر القهقرى قال وتقدم رسول الله ﷺ فلما قضى رسول الله ﷺ الصلاة قال يا أبا بكر ما منعك إذ أومأت إليك أن تمضي في صلاتك قال فقال ما كان لابن أبي قحافة أن يؤم رسول الله ﷺ ثم قال إذا نابكم في الصلاة شيء فليسبح الرجال وليصفق النساء
