Ubada bin Samit reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took from us what he took from the women, or from the people, that we would not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit fornication, nor kill our children, nor slander, nor would any of us defame another, nor disobey him in what is right.Whoever among you commits any of the prohibited offenses and the prescribed punishment is carried out on him, that serves as expiation for him. And whoever has his offense concealed, his matter rests with Allah تبارك وتعالى. If He wills, He punishes him, and if He wills, He forgives him.
