Abu Waail reported,

A man who had been a Christian, named Sabi bin Mabad, embraced Islam and wished to go out for jihad. He was told, "Begin with the Hajj." So he went to al-Ashari, who instructed him to enter ihram for both Hajj and Umrah together, and he did so.While he was reciting the talbiyah, Yazid bin Sawhan and Salman bin Rabia passed by. One of them said to the other, "This man is more lost than his family's stray camel."Sabi heard this, and it weighed heavily on him. When he arrived, he came to Umar and mentioned what had happened.Umar said to him, "You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet."The narrator said, I heard him say on another occasion, "You have been directed to the Sunnah of your Prophet."

أن رجلا كان نصرانيا يقال له الصبي بن معبد أسلم فأراد الجهاد فقيل له ابدأ بالحج فأتى الأشعري فأمره أن يهل بالحج والعمرة جميعا ففعل فبينما هو يلبي إذ مر يزيد بن صوحان وسلمان بن ربيعة فقال أحدهما لصاحبه لهذا أضل من بعير أهله فسمعها الصبي فكبر ذلك عليه فلما قدم أتى عمر فذكر ذلك له فقال له عمر رضي الله عنه هديت لسنة نبيك قال وسمعته مرة أخرى يقول وفقت لسنة نبيك
