The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite in the first two units of the noon prayer, sometimes letting us hear a verse. He would lengthen the first unit and shorten the second. He would recite in the first two units of the afternoon prayer as well. In the dawn prayer, he would lengthen the first unit and shorten the second.

كان رسول الله ﷺ يقرأ في الركعتين الأوليين من الظهر يسمعنا الآية أحيانا فيطيل في الركعة الأولى ويقصر في الثانية ويقرأ في الركعتين الأوليين من العصر ويطيل في الركعة الأولى من الفجر ويقصر في الثانية
