The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to lead us in prayer. In the first two units of the noon and afternoon prayers, he would recite the Opening of the Book along with two surahs, and at times he would let us hear a verse. In the last two units, he would recite only the Opening of the Book. He used to lengthen the first unit of both the noon and afternoon prayers.

أن نبي الله ﷺ كان يصلي بنا فيقرأ في الظهر والعصر في الأوليين بسورتين وأم الكتاب وكان يسمعنا الأحيان الآية وفي الآخرتين بأم الكتاب وكان يطيل في أول ركعة من صلاة الظهر وصلاة العصر
