Abu Qatada reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of two years, the one past and the one to come, and fasting on the Day of Ashura expiates the sins of the past year."

عن أبي قتادة قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ صوم يوم عرفة يكفر سنتين ماضية ومستقبلة وصوم عاشوراء يكفر سنة ماضية
