Abu Qatada used to tilt the vessel for the cat so it could drink, and he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that the cat is not impure. It is one of those who roam about among you."
حدثنا سفيان حدثني إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة حدثتني
أن أبا قتادة كان يصغي الإناء للهر فيشرب وقال إن رسول الله ﷺ حدثنا أنها ليست بنجس إنها من الطوافين والطوافات عليكم
Its isnad is sahih. Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha is trustworthy and authoritative, and his hadith is relied upon by the group of hadith compilers. This has been mentioned many times before. The wife of Abdullah bin Abu Talha is Kabsha bint Kaab bin Malik al-Ansariyyah, who is trustworthy by unanimous agreement, and Ibn Hibban said she had companionship with the Prophet. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud (1/19, no. 75), Nasai (1/55, no. 68), and Tirmidhi (1/153, no. 92), who said it is hasan sahih, and Ibn Majah (1/131, no. 367), all of them in the chapter on purification. It was likewise narrated by Malik in Muwatta (1/25, no. 13), and by Darimi (1/203, no. 736).
