A thief was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He confessed, though no stolen goods were found with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "I do not think you stole."The man replied, "Yes, I did," repeating it two or three times.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Cut off his hand, then bring him back to me."So they cut off his hand and brought him back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Say, 'I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance.'"The man said, "I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then prayed, "O Allah, accept his repentance."
حدثنا بهز حدثنا حماد أخبرنا إسحاق يعني ابن أبي طلحة عن أبي المنذر مولى أبي ذر
أن رسول الله ﷺ أتي بلص فاعترف ولم يوجد معه متاع فقال له رسول الله ﷺ ما أخالك سرقت قال بلى مرتين أو ثلاثا قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ اقطعوه ثم جيئوا به قال فقطعوه ثم جاءوا به فقال له رسول الله ﷺ قل أستغفر الله وأتوب إليه قال أستغفر الله وأتوب إليه فقال رسول الله ﷺ اللهم تب عليه
