I came to stay with Abu Hashim bin Utbah while he was suffering from a stab wound. Muawiya came in to visit him, and Abu Hashim wept.Muawiya asked him, "What makes you weep? Is it pain afflicting you, or is it sorrow over the world, since its purity has now passed away?"He replied, "It is neither of those. Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted me with a counsel, and I wish I had followed it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Perhaps you will live to see wealth distributed among various peoples. What is enough for you from the accumulation of wealth is a servant and a mount used in the cause of Allah the Exalted.' Yet I lived to see that time and amassed wealth."

نزلت على أبي هاشم بن عتبة وهو طعين فدخل عليه معاوية يعوده فبكى فقال له معاوية ما يبكيك أوجع يشتزك أم على الدنيا فقد ذهب صفوها فقال على كل لا ولكن رسول الله ﷺ عهد إلي عهدا فوددت أني اتبعته إن رسول الله ﷺ قال لعلك أن تدرك أموالا تقسم بين أقوام وإنما يكفيك من جمع المال خادم ومركب في سبيل الله تعالى فوجدت فجمعت
Its isnad is daif, due to the unknown status of Samura bin Sahm. Ibn Madini judged him unknown, and the two hafiz scholars Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar followed him in this.However, the hadith is sahih, as it was mentioned earlier through a route other than Samura bin Sahm at 15601. In addition to what has already been mentioned, it was also related by Tirmidhi 4/564, number 2327, who passed over it in silence, by Nasai 8/218, by Ibn Majah 2/1374, number 4103, by Darimi 2/301, and by Ibn Hibban 4/6, number 2487 in Mawarid.His saying "yabtaruka" means "cuts you off."
