The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me, intending to send me with a sum of money to Abu Sufyan to be distributed among the Quraysh in Mecca after the conquest. He said, "Find yourself a companion for the journey."Then Amr bin Umaya al-Damri came to me and said, "I have heard that you intend to set out and are looking for a companion."I replied, "Yes."He said, "Then I will be your companion."So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I have found a companion." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had told me, "When you find a companion, inform me."He asked, "Who is it?"I said, "Amr bin Umaya al-Damri."He said, "When you reach the land of his people, beware of him, for the saying goes, 'Your own brother of Bakr, do not trust him.'"So we set out, and when we arrived at al-Abwa, he said to me, "I have some business with my people in Waddan, so wait here for me."I said, "Go safely."But when he turned away, I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I tightened the saddle on my camel and rode off swiftly. When I reached al-Asafir, there he was, coming to intercept me with a group of his clan. I urged my camel on and outpaced him. When he saw that I had escaped him, they turned back, and he came up to me alone and said, "I had some business with my people."I said, "Indeed."We continued on until we reached Mecca, where I delivered the money to Abu Sufyan.

دعاني رسول الله ﷺ وقد أراد أن يبعثني بمال إلى أبي سفيان يقسمه في قريش بمكة بعد الفتح قال فقال التمس صاحبا قال فجاءني عمرو بن أمية الضمري قال بلغني أنك تريد الخروج وتلتمس صاحبا قال قلت أجل قال فأنا لك صاحب قال فجئت رسول الله ﷺ فقلت قد وجدت صاحبا وكان رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا وجدت صاحبا فآذني قال فقال من قلت عمرو بن أمية الضمري قال فقال إذا هبطت بلاد قومه فاحذره فإنه قد قال القائل أخوك البكري ولا تأمنه قال فخرجنا حتى إذا جئت الأبواء فقال لي إني أريد حاجة إلى قومي بودان فتلبث لي قال قلت راشدا فلما ولى ذكرت قول رسول الله ﷺ فشددت على بعيري ثم خرجت أوضعه حتى إذا كنت بالأصافر إذا هو يعارضني في رهطه قال وأوضعت فسبقته فلما رآني قد فته انصرفوا وجاءني قال كانت لي إلى قومي حاجة قال قلت أجل فمضينا حتى قدمنا مكة فدفعت المال إلى أبي سفيان
