He used to say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fruit is not to be sold until it is fit to eat."

Its isnad is sahih. In h, "Ibn Amr bin Dinar" appears instead of "hadaana Amr bin Dinar," which is an error. We corrected it from k.Yutimu, with the ain vowelled as i. Ibn Athir said, it is said "the tree fed" (atamat) when it bore fruit, and "the fruit fed" (atamat) when it ripened, meaning it acquired taste and became something edible. It is also permissible to vowel the ain as a (fatha), and this is another reading. Ibn Athir said, it means it becomes edible, and it is not eaten except when it has ripened. This is the meaning of the other hadiths prohibiting the sale of fruit before its soundness becomes apparent. These are found in the Sahihayn and other collections, from the hadith of Jabir, Ibn Umar, Abu Hurairah, and others. Its meaning will come at 15053 from the hadith of Jabir, Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Umar together.In Majma al-Zawaid 4:20 there is something similar from the hadith of Ibn Abbas, and it is said, Tabarani related it in al-Kabir through several routes, and the men of some of them are trustworthy.See also 937.
