I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over his leather socks, over the head covering, and then over the turban.
حدثنا الحسن بن سوار حدثنا ليث يعني ابن سعد عن معاوية عن عتبة أبي أمية الدمشقي عن أبي سلام الأسود
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ توضأ ومسح على الخفين وعلى الخمار ثم العمامة
Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of Utba bin Abu Umaya Dimashqi, whom they weakened due to his numerous errors, but the hadith has corroborating narrations and others followed him in it. See 17179. Haythami 1/255 pointed to some of this, and it is found in Tabarani 2/91, number 1409.
