The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best Dinar a man spends is the Dinar he spends on his dependents, then the Dinar he spends on his mount in the cause of Allah, then the Dinar he spends on his companions in the cause of Allah."Abu Qilaba commented, "He began with the dependents."Sulayman bin Harb did not raise the wording, "A Dinar a man spends on his mount in the cause of Allah."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا حماد يعني ابن زيد عن أيوب عن أبي قلابة عن أبي أسماء
قال رسول الله ﷺ أفضل دينار ينفقه الرجل على عياله ثم على نفسه ثم في سبيل الله ثم على أصحابه في سبيل الله قال أبو قلابة فيبدأ بالعيال و قال سليمان بن حرب ولم يرفعه دينار أنفقه رجل على دابته في سبيل الله
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is found in Muslim, in the chapter on zakat, number 38, on the virtue of spending on one's family and slaves. It has already appeared with similar wording. See 22280, and 10075, 10128.
