Its isnad is sahih. Mahdi bin Jafar Ramli, the ascetic, Abu Muhammad, is reliable. Ibn Main confirmed him as reliable, and he died in the year 230. Ibn Taghri Bardi mentioned his death in that year in al-Nujum al-Zahirah 2:258. Dhahabi mentioned in al-Mizan 3:206 that Ibn Adi said, "He narrates from reliable narrators things that are not corroborated." But he then noted that he had not seen this in al-Kamil by Ibn Adi, rather he took it from Tarikh Dimashq. Both he and the author of al-Tahdhib also reported that Bukhari said, "His hadith is munkar." However, I did not find a biographical entry for this man in Bukhari's works, neither in the large one, nor the small one, nor in al-Duafa. Nasai also did not mention him in al-Duafa.It appears to me that they confused him with another reliable narrator, namely Mahdi bin Hafs Baghdadi, Abu Ahmad, because the author of al-Tahdhib mentioned Ramli right after Baghdadi for the purpose of distinguishing between them. Some, like the author of al-Khulasah, mistakenly thought that Ramli was also called Mahdi bin Hafs. In fact, this error goes back a long way, since Ibn Jawzi mentioned him among the teachers of Ahmad under the name Mahdi bin Hafs, Abu Muhammad Ramli. However, Dhahabi's arrangement in al-Mizan places him in his proper position as follows, Mahdi bin Aswad, Mahdi bin Jafar, Mahdi bin Harb, placing the letter jim among the fathers' names after alif and before ha.Suyuti mentioned this hadith in al-Jami al-Saghir number 1037, and also attributed it to Tabarani and to Bayhaqi in al-Shuab.
