The Prophet ﷺ was passing by Baqi al-Gharqad on a day of intense heat, and the people were walking behind him. When he heard the sound of their sandals, it weighed on him, so he sat down until they had gone ahead of him, lest any trace of pride enter his heart.When he passed by Baqi al-Gharqad, there were two graves in which two men had just been buried. The Prophet ﷺ stopped and asked, "Who did you bury here today?"They replied, "Prophet of Allah, so-and-so and so-and-so."He said, "They are both being punished right now and tested in their graves."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, for what reason?"He answered, "As for one of them, he did not take care to keep himself clean from urine. As for the other, he used to go about spreading malicious gossip."Then he took a fresh palm branch, split it in two, and placed a piece on each grave.They asked, "Prophet of Allah, why did you do that?"He said, "So that their punishment may be eased."They asked, "Prophet of Allah, until when will Allah punish them?"He replied, "That is unseen, known only to Allah." Then he said, "Were it not that your hearts would be torn apart, or that you would add to the report, you would hear what I hear."
حدثنا أبو المغيرة حدثنا معان بن رفاعة حدثني علي بن يزيد قال سمعت القاسم أبا عبد الرحمن يحدث
مر النبي ﷺ في يوم شديد الحر نحو بقيع الغرقد قال فكان الناس يمشون خلفه قال فلما سمع صوت النعال وقر ذلك في نفسه فجلس حتى قدمهم أمامه لئلا يقع في نفسه شيء من الكبر فلما مر ببقيع الغرقد إذا بقبرين قد دفنوا فيهما رجلين قال فوقف النبي ﷺ فقال من دفنتم هاهنا اليوم قالوا يا نبي الله فلان وفلان قال إنهما ليعذبان الآن ويفتنان في قبريهما قالوا يا رسول الله فيم ذاك قال أما أحدهما فكان لا يتنزه من البول وأما الآخر فكان يمشي بالنميمة وأخذ جريدة رطبة فشقها ثم جعلها على القبرين قالوا يا نبي الله ولم فعلت قال ليخففن عنهما قالوا يا نبي الله وحتى متى يعذبهما الله قال غيب لا يعلمه إلا الله قال ولولا تمزع قلوبكم أو تزيدكم في الحديث لسمعتم ما أسمع
