Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

A man came to Umar and said, "A woman came to me to make a transaction, so I took her into a private chamber and did everything with her short of intercourse."Umar said, "Woe to you! Perhaps her husband is away in the path of Allah?"The man replied, "Yes."Umar said, "Go to Abu Bakr and ask him."So he went to Abu Bakr and asked him. Abu Bakr said, "Perhaps her husband is away in the path of Allah?" and gave the same response as Umar. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the same. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perhaps her husband is away in the path of Allah?" Then the Quran was revealed, "And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds" [Hud 11:114] to the end of the verse. The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, is this for me specifically or for people generally?"Umar struck his chest with his hand and said, "No, and not even as a delight to your eye. Rather, it is for people generally."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Umar has spoken the truth."
