Muaz bin Jabal, the envoy of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, came to us in Yemen at the time of dawn, raising his voice with the takbir in a hoarse tone. My heart was filled with love for him, and I never parted from him until I poured dust upon him as he lay dead in Syria, may Allah have mercy on him. Then I looked for the most knowledgeable person after him, so I went to Abdullah bin Masud. He asked me, "How will you be when rulers come who delay the prayer beyond its proper time?"I said, "What do you command me to do if I live to see that?"He replied, "Pray the prayer at its proper time, then make any prayer you offer with them a voluntary one."
