I sat in a gathering that included twenty of the Prophet's ﷺ companions, and among them was a young man, youthful in age, handsome of face, with deep black eyes and gleaming white front teeth. Whenever they differed over something and he gave his opinion, they deferred to what he said. He turned out to be Muaz bin Jabal. The next day I came and found him praying beside a pillar. He shortened his prayer, then sat with his knees drawn up and fell silent.I said to him, "By Allah, I love you for the sake of the majesty of Allah."He asked, "For Allah?"I said, "For Allah."He said, "Then you are among those who love one another for Allah." And I think he said, "in the shade of Allah on a Day when there will be no shade but His." There is no doubt about the rest of the report, that thrones of light will be set up for them, and the prophets, the truthful ones, and the martyrs will envy them their place with the Lord .I related this to Ubada bin Samit, and he said, "I will tell you only what I heard from the very tongue of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. My love is assured for those who love one another in Me, and assured for those who give freely to one another in Me, and My love is assured for those who are sincere with one another in Me and those who keep ties with one another in Me." Shuba was uncertain whether it was "those who keep ties with one another" or "those who visit one another."
