He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abdullah bin Huzafa with his letter to Khosrow. He delivered it to the governor of Bahrain, who was to pass it on to Khosrow.Yaqub said, "The governor of Bahrain handed it over to Khosrow, and when he read it, he tore it up."Ibn Shihab said, "I believe Ibn al-Musayyab said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then prayed against them, that they be torn to pieces completely."
Its isnad is sahih. Its chains going back to Abbas are all sahih, but the report of Ibn Musayab is daif because it is a mursal report. Sulayman bin Dawud Hashimi is trustworthy and reliable, and he was one of the students of Shafii. Shafii said, "I have not seen two men more intelligent than Ahmad bin Hanbal and Sulayman bin Dawud Hashimi." And Ahmad said, "If I were told, 'Choose a man for the Ummah, to be appointed as caliph over them,' I would have chosen Sulayman bin Dawud."This hadith was narrated by Bukhari, 1:143 and 8:96. In the second place, the Hafiz said regarding the mursal report of Ibn Musayab, "It occurs in all the routes as mursal, but it is possible that Ibn Musayab heard it from Abdullah bin Hudhafah, the one involved in the incident, for Ibn Saad mentioned in his hadith that he said, 'So the letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was read to him, and he took it and tore it up.'"
