I asked Ata about exchanging a dinar for a dinar with a difference between them, and a dirham for a dirham.He replied, "Ibn Abbas used to permit it."Ibn Zubayr then said, "Ibn Abbas is reporting things he never heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."When this reached Ibn Abbas, he said, "It is true that I did not hear it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but Usama bin Zayd told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There is no riba except in a deferred exchange,'" or, "'except in naqirah.'"

سألت عطاء عن الدينار بالدينار وبينهما فضل والدرهم بالدرهم قال كان ابن عباس يحله فقال ابن الزبير إن ابن عباس يحدث بما لم يسمع من رسول الله ﷺ فبلغ ابن عباس فقال إني لم أسمعه من رسول الله ﷺ ولكن أسامة بن زيد حدثني أن رسول الله ﷺ قال ليس الربا إلا في النسيئة أو النقرة
