A man from Syria came with a shipment of oil. I bargained with him along with other merchants who were bargaining with him, until I purchased it from him.Then a man came up to me and offered me a profit on it that satisfied me. I took his hand to seal the deal, but someone caught my arm from behind. I turned around, and there was Zayd bin Thabit.He said, "Do not sell it where you bought it until you have transported it to your own quarters, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade that."So I held back my hand.

قدم رجل من أهل الشام بزيت فساومته فيمن ساومه من التجار حتى ابتعته منه حتى قال فقام إلي رجل فربحني فيه حتى أرضاني قال فأخذت بيده لأضرب عليها فأخذ رجل بذراعي من خلفي فالتفت إليه فإذا زيد بن ثابت فقال لا تبعه حيث ابتعته حتى تحوزه إلى رحلك فإن رسول الله ﷺ قد نهى عن ذلك فأمسكت يدي

Its isnad is sahih. Ubayd bin Hunayn al-Madani is reliable, and his hadith is found among the group of scholars (al-Jamaah). The prohibition on selling food or goods before they have been taken possession of by the buyer is recorded in the Sahihayn, and it has already appeared at 8573 and 2585. It is also found in Abu Dawud 3499, Nasai 7/285, Daraqutni 3/13, and Tabarani in al-Kabir 11/13.
