Ibn Daylami reported,

I came to Ubayy bin Kaab and said to him, "Something concerning divine decree has troubled my heart, so I would like you to relate to me a hadith through which Allah might remove from me what I am feeling."He said, "If Allah عز وجل were to punish the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth, He would punish them without being unjust to them, and if He were to show them mercy, His mercy would be better for them than their own deeds. If you possessed gold equal to Mount Uhud and spent it in the path of Allah, it would not be accepted from you until you believed in divine decree and knew that whatever has befallen you was never going to miss you and whatever has missed you was never going to befall you. If you died holding any belief other than this, you would enter the Fire. There is no harm if you go to my brother Abdullah bin Masud and ask him about this."So he met Abdullah, who told him the same. Then he met Huzaifa bin Yaman, who told him the same. Then he met Zayd bin Thabit, who told him the same, except that he related it from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ.
