Zayd bin Thabit said regarding this verse, "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has cast them back because of what they earned?" [Nisa 4:88], that some men from the Prophet's ﷺ companions had turned back. The people were divided into two groups concerning them. One group said, "Kill them," while the other said, "No." So this verse was revealed, "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two groups concerning the hypocrites" [Nisa 4:88].He also said, "Indeed it is Tayyibah, and it expels impurity just as fire expels the impurity of silver."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عدي بن ثابت عن عبد الله بن يزيد يحدث
أنه قال في هذه الآية {فما لكم في المنافقين فئتين والله أركسهم بما كسبوا} قال رجع أناس من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فكان الناس فيهم فرقتين فريق يقولون قتلهم وفريق يقولون لا فنزلت هذه الآية {فما لكم في المنافقين فئتين} وقال إنها طيبة وإنها تنفي الخبث كما تنفي النار خبث الفضة
