Someone said to Marwan, "Did I not see you shorten the two rakahs of Maghrib? I saw the Prophet ﷺ recite Araf in them."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن هشام قال أخبرني أبي أن
لمروان ألم أرك قصرت سجدتي المغرب رأيت النبي ﷺ يقرأ فيها بالأعراف

Its chain of transmission is sahih, but this happened only once, as the scholars have said. Most of the time, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite short surahs in Maghrib. Tirmidhi mentioned the statements of the hadith scholars and jurists and said, "The people of knowledge act upon it," 2/112, no. 308.
