Muttalib bin Abdullah reported,

They disagreed about whether there was recitation during the Zuhr and Asr prayers, so they sent word to Kharijah bin Zayd.He said, "My father said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand for a long time and move his lips, so I knew that this could only be for recitation, and so I do the same.'"

قال حدثنا أبو أحمد حدثنا كثير بن زيد

عن المطلب بن عبد الله قال

تماروا في القراءة في الظهر والعصر فأرسلوا إلى خارجة بن زيد فقال قال أبي قام أو كان رسول الله ﷺ يطيل القيام ويحرك شفتيه فقد أعلم ذلك لم يكن إلا لقراءة فأنا أفعل
