I asked Abu Dharr, saying, "You once asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about Laylat al-Qadr."He replied, "Yes, I used to ask people about it." He said, "I asked, 'Messenger of Allah, tell me about Laylat al-Qadr. Is it in Ramadan or in some other month?'"He answered, "Rather, it is in Ramadan."I asked, "Does it occur during the time of the prophets and then, when they pass away, is it taken away, or does it continue until the Day of Resurrection?"He said, "Rather, it continues until the Day of Resurrection."I asked, "In which part of Ramadan is it?"He said, "Seek it in the first ten nights or the last ten nights."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued speaking, and I waited for a moment of distraction. I asked, "In which of the two tens is it?"He said, "Seek it in the last ten. Do not ask me anything more after this."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued speaking, and again I seized a moment of his distraction and said, "Messenger of Allah, I implore you by the right I have upon you to tell me in which of the ten nights it is."He became angry with me in a way I had never seen during my companionship with him, or words to that effect. He said, "Seek it in the last seven. Do not ask me anything more after this."

سألت أبا ذر قلت كنت سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن ليلة القدر قال أنا كنت أسأل الناس عنها قال قلت يا رسول الله أخبرني عن ليلة القدر أفي رمضان هي أو في غيره قال بل هي في رمضان قال قلت تكون مع الأنبياء ما كانوا فإذا قبضوا رفعت أم هي إلى يوم القيامة قال بل هي إلى يوم القيامة قال قلت في أي رمضان هي قال التمسوها في العشر الأول أو العشر الأواخر ثم حدث رسول الله ﷺ وحدث ثم اهتبلت وغفلته قلت في أي العشرين هي قال ابتغوها في العشر الأواخر لا تسألني عن شيء بعدها ثم حدث رسول الله ﷺ وحدث ثم اهتبلت وغفلته فقلت يا رسول الله أقسمت عليك بحقي عليك لما أخبرتني في أي العشر هي قال فغضب علي غضبا لم يغضب مثله منذ صحبته أو صاحبته كلمة نحوها قال التمسوها في السبع الأواخر لا تسألني عن شيء بعدها
