A man named Akkaf bin Bishr at-Tamimi came in to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Akkaf, do you have a wife?"He replied, "No."The Prophet asked, "Nor a slave-girl?"He replied, "Nor a slave-girl."The Prophet asked, "And you are well-off?"He replied, "I am well-off."The Prophet said, "Then you are one of the brothers of the devils. Had you been among the Christians, you would be one of their monks. Our way is marriage. The worst among you are your bachelors, and the lowliest of your dead are your bachelors. Are you sparring with Satan? Satan has no weapon more effective against the righteous than women, except for those who are married. They are the purified ones, cleared of indecency. Woe to you, Akkaf. They are the companions of Ayub, Dawud, Yusuf, and Kursuf."Bishr bin Atiya said to him, "And who is Kursuf, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "A man who worshipped Allah on one of the seashores for three hundred years, fasting by day and standing in prayer by night. Then he disbelieved in Allah the Mighty on account of a woman he became infatuated with, and abandoned the worship of Allah he had been devoted to. Then Allah set him aright after what he had done, and accepted his repentance. Woe to you, Akkaf. Marry, or else you are among the waverers."He said, "Marry me off then, Messenger of Allah."The Prophet said, "I have married you to Karimah, daughter of Kulthum al-Himyari."

Its isnad is daif due to the unknown identity of the narrator from Abu Dharr, and Haythami said the same, 4/250. It is likewise transmitted from an unknown narrator in Abdul-Razzaq, 6/171, no. 10387. However, Tabarani transmitted it in al-Kabir, 18/85, no. 158, from Makhul, from Ghudayf bin Harith, from Atiya bin Busr, who said, "Ukkaf came..." the hadith.I say, it is sahih by way of Tabarani, and Atiya bin Busr al-Mazini was a companion, one of the younger companions.
