I saw Abu Dharr wearing a fine garment, and Hajjaj said this was at Rabadhah, and his servant was wearing one just like it. On another occasion Hajjaj added, so I asked him about that, and he related that he had once insulted a man during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and had taunted him about his mother. The man went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened, and the Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Dharr, "You are a man in whom there is still something of ignorance. Your servants are your brothers whom Allah has placed under your authority. So whoever has his brother under his authority, let him feed him from what he himself eats and clothe him from what he himself wears. Do not burden them with what overwhelms them, and if you do burden them, then help them with it."
