The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your brothers are servants whom Allah has placed under your authority as a test. So whoever has his brother under his authority, let him feed him from his own food and clothe him from his own clothing, and let him not burden him with what overwhelms him. If he does burden him with what overwhelms him, then let him help him with it."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن سفيان عن واصل عن المعرور
عن النبي ﷺ قال إخوانكم جعلهم الله فتنة تحت أيديكم فمن كان أخوه تحت يديه فليطعمه من طعامه وليكسه من لباسه ولا يكلفه ما يغلبه فإن كلفه ما يغلبه فليعنه عليه
Its isnad is sahih. Wasil is Ibn Hayan al-Ahdab, a trustworthy narrator whose hadith is found among the compilers accepted by the group. Bukhari related the hadith in 1/84, no. 30 (Fath), in the Book of Faith, chapter on sins being of the affairs of the Age of Ignorance. Muslim related it in 3/1283, no. 1661, in the Book of Faith, chapter on feeding the slave. Abu Dawud related it in 4/340, no. 5158, in the Book of Manners, chapter on the rights of the slave. Tirmidhi related it in 4/334, no. 1945, in the Book of Righteousness, chapter on kindness to servants, and said, hasan sahih. Ibn Majah related it in 2/216, no. 3690, similarly to Abu Dawud.
