The Prophet ﷺ recited this verse and kept repeating it until morning, "If You punish them, they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, indeed You are the Almighty, the Wise" [Maidah 5:118].
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا فلان العامري عن جسرة بنت دجاجة
أن النبي ﷺ قرأ هذه الآية فرددها حتى أصبح {إن تعذبهم فإنهم عبادك وإن تغفر لهم فإنك أنت العزيز الحكيم}
