I heard Umar say, "If I live until next year, no town will be conquered for the people without my dividing it among them just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided Khaybar."
Its isnad is sahih. Hisham bin Saad is the Madinan Qurashi, and he is truthful (saduq), though some scholars regarded him as daif. However, Abu Dawud said, "Hisham bin Saad is the most reliable of people regarding Zayd bin Aslam," and we give preference to this, because Bukhari described him in Tarikh al-Kabir 4/2/200 as being the ward (yateem) of Zayd bin Aslam, which makes him more worthy of having accurately preserved his hadith. The hadith was narrated by Yahya bin Adam in Kharaj, number 106 in our edition, from Ibn Mubarak, from Hisham bin Saad. He also narrated it as number 107, from Abdullah bin Idris, from Malik, from Zayd bin Aslam. Abu Ubayd narrated it in Amwal, number 143, edited by our brother Shaykh Hamid Fiqi, from Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Malik. Bukhari narrated it via the route of Malik, as we explained there.
