Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

While we were in rows behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the noon or afternoon prayer, we saw him reach out for something in front of him while he was praying, as if to take it. Then he reached for it again to grasp it, but something came between him and it. Then he stepped back, and we stepped back with him. Then he stepped back a second time, and we stepped back with him.When he had given the closing salutation, Ubayy bin Kaab said, "Messenger of Allah, we saw you doing something in your prayer today that you have not done before."He said, "Paradise was shown to me with all the splendor it contains, and I reached out for a cluster of its grapes to bring it to you. Had I taken it, everyone between the heavens and the earth would have eaten from it without diminishing it. But something came between me and it.Then the Fire was shown to me, and when I felt the heat of its blaze, I drew back. Most of those I saw in it were women who, when entrusted with something, betray the trust, and when they ask, they importune."Ubayy said, Zakariya bin Adi said, "they importune, and when given something, they show no gratitude.I also saw in it Luhay bin Amr dragging his entrails, and the one I saw who most resembled him was Mabad bin Aktham."Mabad said, "Messenger of Allah, is it feared that this resemblance will harm me, since he is my father?"He said, "No. You are a believer and he was a disbeliever. He was the first to gather the Arabs around the worship of idols."

حدثنا أحمد بن عبد الملك حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمرو عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عقيل

عن جابر بن عبد الله قال

بينا نحن صفوفا خلف رسول الله ﷺ في الظهر أو العصر إذ رأيناه يتناول شيئا بين يديه وهو في الصلاة ليأخذه ثم تناوله ليأخذه ثم حيل بينه وبينه ثم تأخر وتأخرنا ثم تأخر الثانية وتأخرنا فلما سلم قال أبي بن كعب رضي الله عنه يا رسول الله رأيناك اليوم تصنع في صلاتك شيئا لم تكن تصنعه قال إنه عرضت علي الجنة بما فيها من الزهرة فتناولت قطفا من عنبها لآتيكم به ولو أخذته لأكل منه من بين السماء والأرض ولا يتنقصونه فحيل بيني وبينه وعرضت علي النار فلما وجدت حر شعاعها تأخرت وأكثر من رأيت فيها النساء اللاتي إن اؤتمن أفشين وإن سألن أحفين قال أبي قال زكريا بن عدي ألحفن وإن أعطين لم يشكرن ورأيت فيها لحي بن عمرو يجر قصبه وأشبه من رأيت به معبد بن أكثم قال معبد أي رسول الله يخشى علي من شبهه فإنه والد قال لا أنت مؤمن وهو كافر وهو أول من جمع العرب على الأصنام
