I came to Medina and entered the mosque, where I found Ubayy bin Kaab. I approached him and said, "May Allah have mercy on you, Abu al-Mundhir. Be gentle with me." He was a man with some sharpness in his temperament.I asked him about Laylat al-Qadr.He said, "It is the twenty-seventh night."I asked, "Abu al-Mundhir, how did you come to know that?"He replied, "By the sign that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about. We counted and remembered. The sign of it is that the sun rises that morning like a basin, without rays, until it climbs higher."

أتيت المدينة فدخلت المسجد فإذا أنا بأبي بن كعب فأتيته فقلت يرحمك الله أبا المنذر اخفض لي جناحك وكان امرأ فيه شراسة فسألته عن ليلة القدر فقال ليلة سبع وعشرين قلت أبا المنذر أنى علمت ذلك قال بالآية التي أخبرنا بها رسول الله ﷺ فعددنا وحفظنا وآية ذلك أن تطلع الشمس في صبيحتها مثل الطست لا شعاع لها حتى ترتفع
