When Jibreel struck the ground with his heel and Zamzam gushed forth, the mother of Ismail began gathering the sand to contain the water. The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on Hajar, the mother of Ismail. Had she left it alone, it would have become a flowing spring."

أن جبريل لما ركض زمزم بعقبه جعلت أم إسماعيل تجمع البطحاء فقال النبي ﷺ رحم الله هاجر أم إسماعيل لو تركتها لكانت ماء معينا

Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it with a similar wording 5/395, no. 3362, Fath, in the Book of the Prophets, Abdul-Razzaq 5/107, no. 9107, in the Book of Hajj, and Ibn Hibban 254, no. 1028, Mawarid. The hadith is among the additions of Abdullah.
