Ubayy bin Kaab reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had granted this as a concession for the believers due to the scarcity of their garments. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ later forbade it, meaning their saying, "Water is only required because of water."

حدثنا يحيى بن غيلان حدثنا رشدين حدثني عمرو بن الحارث عن ابن شهاب حدثني بعض من أرضى

عن سهل بن سعد أن أبيا حدثه

أن رسول الله ﷺ جعلها رخصة للمؤمنين لقلة ثيابهم ثم إن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عنها بعد يعني قولهم الماء من الماء
