Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate a meal, he would send what remained of it to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub would place his fingers where he saw that the Prophet's ﷺ fingers had been.Once, food was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in which he detected the smell of garlic, so he did not eat from it and sent it to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub found no trace of the Prophet's ﷺ fingers in it, so he came and asked, "Messenger of Allah, I did not see the trace of your fingers in it."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "I detected the smell of garlic in it."Abu Ayub said, "Do you send to me what you yourself will not eat?"He answered, "The angel comes to me."
حدثنا بهز حدثنا حماد بن سلمة حدثنا سماك
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا أكل طعاما بعث بفضله إلى أبي أيوب فكان أبو أيوب يضع أصابعه حيث يرى أصابع النبي ﷺ فأتي رسول الله ﷺ بطعام فوجد فيه ريح ثوم فلم يأكل وبعث به إلى أبي أيوب فلم ير فيه أثر أصابع النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إني لم أر فيه أثر أصابعك قال إني وجدت منه ريح ثوم قال أتبعث إلي ما لست آكلا قال إنه يأتيني الملك
