Whenever food was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, he would eat from it and send what remained to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub would place his fingers where he saw the marks of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ fingers.A bowl was once brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he detected the smell of garlic in it, so he did not taste it but sent it to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub looked at it and saw no trace of the Prophet's ﷺ fingers, so he did not taste it either. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I did not see any trace of your fingers in it."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "I detected the smell of garlic in it."Abu Ayub asked, "Do you send to me what you yourself do not eat?"He answered, "The angel comes to me."

أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا أتي بطعام أكل منه وبعث بفضله إلى أبي أيوب فكان أبو أيوب يضع أصابعه حيث يرى أثر أصابع رسول الله ﷺ فأتي النبي ﷺ بقصعة فوجد منها ريح ثوم فلم يذقها وبعث بها إلى أبي أيوب فنظر فلم ير فيها أثر أصابع النبي ﷺ فلم يذقها فأتاه فقال يا رسول الله لم أر فيها أثر أصابعك قال إني وجدت منها ريح ثوم قال فتبعث إلي بما لا تأكل قال إني يأتيني الملك
