Whenever food was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he ate from it, he would send what remained to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub would search for the marks of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ fingers and place his own fingers exactly where he saw the imprint of the Prophet's fingers.One day a dish was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he detected the smell of garlic in it, so he did not taste it and sent it to Abu Ayub. Abu Ayub did not find the marks of the Prophet's ﷺ fingers on it, so he came and said, "Messenger of Allah, I did not see the marks of your fingers in it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I found the smell of garlic in it."Abu Ayub asked, "Are you sending me what you yourself do not eat?"He answered, "The angel comes to me."
حدثنا إبراهيم بن الحجاج الناجي حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن سماك بن حرب
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا أتي بطعام فأكل منه بعث بفضله إلى أبي أيوب فكان أبو أيوب يتتبع أثر أصابع رسول الله ﷺ فيضع أصابعه حيث يرى أثر أصابعه فأتي رسول الله ﷺ ذات يوم بصحفة فوجد منها ريح ثوم فلم يذقها وبعث بها إلى أبي أيوب فلم ير أثر أصابع النبي ﷺ فجاء فقال يا رسول الله لم أر فيها أثر أصابعك قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ إني وجدت منها ريح ثوم قال لم تبعث إلي ما لا تأكل فقال إنه يأتيني الملك
