He saw the seal between the shoulders of the Prophet ﷺ. He had seen the Prophet ﷺ but did not have the status of companionship.
حدثنا أبو سعيد حدثنا ثابت حدثنا عاصم
أنه رأى الخاتم الذي بين كتفي النبي ﷺ وقد رأى النبي ﷺ ولم تكن له صحبة

Its isnad is sahih, but the opposite of that has been established, for he saw the Prophet ﷺ while he was of an age to understand, so he has the status of a companion.
