Nabeesha al-Hudhali used to narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that when a Muslim performs the ritual bath on Friday, then sets out for the mosque without causing harm to anyone, if he arrives before the imam has come out he prays as much as he wishes, and if he finds that the imam has already come out he sits down, listens attentively, and remains silent until the imam completes his Friday prayer and sermon. If all his sins are not forgiven for him on that Friday, it will at least serve as expiation for the Friday before it.
