A man called Sulaym came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, Muaz bin Jabal comes to us after we have gone to sleep, exhausted from our work during the day, and calls us to prayer. We go out to him, but he prolongs the prayer upon us."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Muaz bin Jabal, do not be one who drives people away. Either pray with me, or make it light for your people."Then he said, "Sulaym, what do you have with you of the Quran?"He replied, "I ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire. By Allah, I cannot match your eloquent murmuring nor that of Muaz."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What else do my murmuring and the murmuring of Muaz amount to but asking Allah for Paradise and seeking refuge in Him from the Fire?"Then Sulaym said, "You will see tomorrow, when the people meet, Allah willing."The people were preparing to march to Uhud. He went out, and he was among the martyrs, may the mercy and good pleasure of Allah be upon him.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا وهيب حدثنا عمرو بن يحيى عن معاذ بن رفاعة الأنصاري
يقال له سليم أتى رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إن معاذ بن جبل يأتينا بعدما ننام ونكون في أعمالنا بالنهار فينادي بالصلاة فنخرج إليه فيطول علينا فقال رسول الله ﷺ يا معاذ بن جبل لا تكن فتانا إما أن تصلي معي وإما أن تخفف على قومك ثم قال يا سليم ماذا معك من القرآن قال إني أسأل الله الجنة وأعوذ به من النار والله ما أحسن دندنتك ولا دندنة معاذ فقال رسول الله ﷺ وهل تصير دندنتي ودندنة معاذ إلا أن نسأل الله الجنة ونعوذ به من النار ثم قال سليم سترون غدا إذا التقى القوم إن شاء الله قال والناس يتجهزون إلى أحد فخرج وكان في الشهداء رحمة الله ورضوانه عليه
