Someone who had ridden behind the Prophet ﷺ reported, "I was riding behind him on a donkey when the donkey stumbled, so I said, 'May Satan perish!'"The Prophet ﷺ said to me, "Do not say, 'May Satan perish,' for when you say, 'May Satan perish,' Satan grows great within himself and says, 'I brought him down by my strength.' But when you say, 'In the name of Allah,' he becomes so small in his own eyes that he is tinier than a fly."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن عاصم
عمن كان رديف النبي ﷺ قال كنت رديفه على حمار فعثر الحمار فقلت تعس الشيطان فقال لي النبي ﷺ لا تقل تعس الشيطان فإنك إذا قلت تعس الشيطان تعاظم الشيطان في نفسه وقال صرعته بقوتي فإذا قلت بسم الله تصاغرت إليه نفسه حتى يكون أصغر من ذباب

Its isnad is sahih. Abu Tamimah Hujaymi appears frequently, and his name is Tarif bin Mujalid. He is among the reliable Successors, and his hadith is found in Bukhari and the four (Sunan collections). The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 4/297, no. 4982, in the chapter on manners. Haythami said, 10/131, "Ahmad narrated it through several chains, all of whose men are the men of the sahih (collections)." He did not attribute it to Tabarani, but it is found in his Kabir, 1/162, no. 385.
