The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word to a village four farsakhs away, or he said two farsakhs, on the day of Ashura, commanding that whoever had already eaten should not eat for the rest of the day, and whoever had not eaten should complete his fast.
حدثنا وكيع عن إسرائيل أو غيره عن جابر عن عكرمة
أرسل رسول الله ﷺ إلى قرية على رأس أربعة فراسخ أو قال فرسخين يوم عاشوراء فأمر من أكل أن لا يأكل بقية يومه ومن لم يأكل أن يتم صومه

Its chain of transmission is daif for two reasons, because of Waki's uncertainty about his teacher, whether it was Israil or someone else, and because of the weakness of Jabir Jafi. The hadith appears in Majma al-Zawaid 3:184-185, where it is stated, "Ahmad and Tabarani in Al-Kabir narrated it, and it contains Jabir Jafi, whom Shubah and Thawri considered reliable, though much has been said about him." The author of Al-Zawaid left out the first defect!The meaning of the hadith is sahih and established through the narration of Rabi bint Muawwidh, narrated by the two Shaykhs [Bukhari and Muslim] and others.
