A man praised a companion of his in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Woe to you, you have cut your friend's neck. If one of you must praise someone, let him say, 'I reckon him to be such and such,' and Allah is his reckoner. I do not declare anyone pure before Allah the Exalted."

أن رجلا مدح صاحبا له عند النبي ﷺ فقال ويلك قطعت عنقه إن كنت مادحا لا محالة فقل أحسبه كذا وكذا والله حسيبه ولا أزكي على الله تعالى أحدا
