Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Thawri. Abdullah is Ibn Uthman bin Khaytham, with the diminutive form, mentioned previously at 131, and Ibn Main said, "Trustworthy, an authority." The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud at 109, where it begins, "Wear white garments, for they are among the best of your garments, and shroud your dead in them." This first portion was narrated by Tirmidhi at 132-133, and Ibn Majah 1:231, through the route of Abdullah bin Uthman. Tirmidhi said, "The hadith is hasan sahih."Tirmidhi also narrated at 3:60-61, through the route of Abbad bin Mansur, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, as a raised report, "Apply kohl of antimony, for it clears the vision and makes the hair grow," and he said, "A hasan hadith, we do not know it with this wording except through the hadith of Abbad bin Mansur, though it has been narrated through other routes from the Prophet that he said..."Al-ithmid, with the hamza and the mim both vowelled with a kasra, and a silent tha between them, is a well-known stone from which kohl is made.
