Amr bin Maymun reported,

During the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while he was in good health, he had gathered the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and adjured them by Allah whether anyone had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say anything about the grandfather's share of inheritance.Maqil bin Yasar stood up and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a case of inheritance was brought to him involving a grandfather, and he granted him either a third or a sixth."He asked, "What was the case?"Maqil replied, "I do not know."He said, "What prevented you from knowing?"

حدثنا عمرو بن الهيثم أبو قطن حدثنا يونس يعني ابن أبي إسحاق عن أبيه

عن عمرو بن ميمون شهد عمر رضي الله عنه قال

وقد كان جمع أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ في حياته وصحته فناشدهم الله من سمع رسول الله ﷺ ذكر في الجد شيئا فقام معقل بن يسار رضي الله عنه فقال قد سمعت رسول الله ﷺ أتي بفريضة فيها جد فأعطاه ثلثا أو سدسا قال وما الفريضة قال لا أدري قال ما منعك أن تدري
