Whenever he led them in prayer, he would observe two pauses of silence, one when he began the prayer, and another brief pause after reciting "nor of those who go astray" [Fatihah 1:7]. The people objected to this practice, so he wrote to Ubayy bin Kaab about it, and Ubayy wrote back to them confirming that the matter was just as Samura had done.
