Umar bin Khattab reported,

While he was standing delivering the Friday sermon, one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ entered. Umar called out to him, "What hour is this?"The man replied, "I was occupied today and did not return home until I heard the call to prayer, so I did no more than perform ablution."Umar said, "Ablution as well? You know" and in another version, "and you certainly know, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command performing the full bath."

حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن سالم عن أبيه أن

عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه

بينا هو قائم يخطب يوم الجمعة فدخل رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فناداه عمر رضي الله عنه أية ساعة هذه فقال إني شغلت اليوم فلم أنقلب إلى أهلي حتى سمعت النداء فلم أزد على أن توضأت فقال عمر رضي الله عنه الوضوء أيضا وقد علمتم وفي موضع آخر وقد علمت أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يأمر بالغسل
