The Prophet ﷺ led the dawn prayer and then asked, "Is there anyone here from the tribe of so-and-so?"They answered, "Yes."He said, "Your companion is being held back at the gate of Paradise because of a debt he owes."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن إسماعيل يعني ابن أبي خالد قال سمعت الشعبي يحدث
صلى النبي ﷺ الصبح فقال هاهنا أحد من بني فلان قالوا نعم قال إن صاحبكم محتبس على باب الجنة في دين عليه
Its isnad is sahih, and it is found in Abu Dawud 3/243, no. 3341, and Nasai 7/315, both in the Book of Sales, chapter on the strictness regarding debt. Hakim graded it sahih at 2/25, and Dhahabi concurred with him.
