I came to Hajjaj bin Yusuf and said, "May Allah set the Amir's affairs right, shall I not relate to you a hadith which Samura bin Jundab narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "Yes."He said, I heard him saying, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Begging is a toil by which a man wears down his own face. Whoever wishes may preserve his dignity, and whoever wishes may abandon it, except when a man asks one in authority, or asks concerning a matter he cannot do without."

دخلت على الحجاج بن يوسف فقلت أصلح الله الأمير ألا أحدثك حديثا حدثنيه سمرة بن جندب عن رسول الله ﷺ قال بلى قال سمعته يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ المسائل كد يكد بها الرجل وجهه فمن شاء أبقى على وجهه ومن شاء ترك إلا أن يسأل رجل ذا سلطان أو يسأل في أمر لا بد منه
